“Nightingale” is an upcoming comic by Elena “Yamino” Barbarich and Ingrid Ljungqvist.
“Nightingale” is the story of a young blind superheroine in contemporary Amsterdam. Fifteen-year-old Sofie’s sheltered life changes forever when she discovers that she can use her singing voice to echolocate. A whole new world opens to her – that of the rooftops of the nightly city. Out there, far from the suffocating limitations imposed on her by others, she’s free to reinvent herself.
She becomes Nightingale, a secretive guardian of justice. At first her mission is little more than a game, but when she stumbles across a sinister scheme, things take a darker turn. People go missing, turning up later with broken minds. There is more than one mysterious presence inhabiting the shadowy parts of Amsterdam, and this one is making a grab for absolute power – and Nightingale. Unless Sofie wants to see herself, her country and everyone she loves in enemy hands, she needs to act fast. Fortunately, she isn’t alone. Emily, her best friend and cousin, stands by her side to add support and some well needed muscle. And then there’s Charlie, the charismatic up-and-coming popstar with a fond eye for Emily. But will she become an ally or yet another obstacle?
“Nightingale” is a fresh take on the classic superhero tale for a European audience. Featuring a diverse cast of strong personalities, “Nightingale” introduces a new female hero with her own unique perspective and mythos. Sofie’s story is about friendship, courage and finding the strength to fight for the rights of yourself and others in a flawed world.
